September and October books

Not very many as my reading has been largely confined to textbooks (which I don't intend to record here).

Flora Klickmann - Weeding the Flower Patch  Recommended by  [personal profile] callmemadamwho shares my taste for gentle mid 20th century books combining village life and gardening. This series was new to me, but just my sort of book. Although I do think Ms Klickmann would have been a rather formidable woman in real life.

Emma - Jane Austen  A re-read of one of my desert island books ahead of the BBC TV Sunday night dramatisation (which I enjoyed massively, although not without a few reservations). On reading it this time I realised my father in law has become exactly like Mr Woodhouse.

High Table - Joanna Cannan I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as Princes in the Land or I Wrote A Pony Book which are the only other books of hers I have read, mainly because I didn't engage with any of the characters. However, it is a nice old orange Penguin and only cost me 50p, so I feel I got my money's worth.

Madresfield - Jane Mulvagh I found the earlier history of the Lygon family quite dull, but enjoyed the Brideshead chapters.

And that's it.
