It is well and truly autumnal now. We are burning log fires in the evenings and it is dark when we get up; all the purple has gone from the hills and the deer have come down from the hills. Driving back from Inverness in the dark last night was scary after the Q. who killed Bambi? A. that would be us episode last Friday. Three times there were deer at the roadside but fortunately they stayed put (and alive). I am shocked by the amount of people who asked if we brought the dead deer home to feast on road kill. An owl almost flew into us last night, so Mr Vinegar and I discussed the possibility of putting Hedwig-burgers on the menu as a tie-in promotion to the new HP film. Perhaps not.

A HIK and The Dog are cockling on the beach and I should be/am about to be literally any minute now making cauliflower and blue cheese soup, and pork in cider with cheese and herb dumplings. I am hoping to finish cooking early enough tonight to knit the valley girl's cardigan. I just have the sleeves to go and she will be here on Sunday so I want to get on with it. It was actually supposed to be for Easter but somehow got put aside, and I never feel like knitting in the summer.

I sorted out all of the ozard dude's clothes this week and have bags of hand me downs to pass on to friends and neighbours. This winter he will be mostly wearing school uniform and football kit it would appear. I would offer to knit him something but until Manchester United take to the pitch in hand knitted tracky tops he is unlikely to be impressed by anything I could produce. I bought him trousers yesterday (thank heaven for T K Maxx; Quiksilver jeans for both boys at £7 a pair ) - he chose nice jeans and unspeakably chavvy/neddy beige Reebok joggers which he adores. And I found good things to stash away for his Christmas stocking.

We saw the Wallace and Gromit film which was fun, but I still like the Wrong Trousers best. The trailers for the new Harry Potter and Narnia films looked good, although the White Witch wasn't how I picture her at all. I do hope they haven't taken too many liberties.

And now I really must haul myself into the kitchen and cook something.

Is everybody getting the password message from the server? I would defy anyone to guess mine unless they have an exhaustive knowledge of Bulgarian folk song!
